passing of the torch

Passing of the Torch from Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month to Breast Cancer Awareness Month®

Begining of the walkPassing of the Torch is an event that highlights the hereditary link between breast and ovarian cancer, honors cancer survivors and those at high risk, remembers those whose lives have been lost to cancer, and recognizes families that have been affected by cancer.

A ceremonial flame is passed from an ovarian cancer survivor to a breast cancer survivor marking the transition from Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month to Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

In 2009, Passing of the Torch was hosted by our Cincinnati Group.

Luminaries lit up Newport on the Levee in early October when the FORCE Cincinnati/ Northern Kentucky Outreach Group led by FORCE Cincinnati Outreach Coordinator, Mary Orloff, hosted Passing of the Torch.

Mary was joined by fellow Outreach Coordinators, Dawn McNees and Meg Morris, and members of the public, including local breast and ovarian cancer survivors.  The ceremonies were hosted by Amy Storer-Scalia, Publisher of Cincy Chic.  Music was provided by Bill Tonnis, a local inspirational singer and former Cincinnati news anchor, as well as Tressler Comet, the band that plays the songs that you never knew you knew.  Sara Knapke, a certified genetic counselor with Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, spoke about hereditary breast and ovarian cancer.

You can view more photos of the event at the AK Photography website (and our thanks to AK for the photos and permission to share them.)
